Last night a strange smell hung around the computer room. Dan said he looked around wondering if all was well in there. He thought it was, but as it turns out, it was not.
My five-year-old computer has gone black. I suspected all was not well. For one thing, I was pretty sure one of the two cooling fans was not working. The noise it had been making had quit.
Then, there was the slowing down-locking up thing. It seemed to be doing that more and more. The DVD player and CD copier has not worked for a couple of years.
Thankfully, I have an external hard drive that I use to back up. Still, I hadn’t backed up My Documents for a while. I don’t know if everything is gone or not. If it is, all is definitely not lost. Certainly no pictures. They are the one thing I am meticulous about backing up.
I called my computer guy this morning. He said he still had a computer they usually sell to businesses that runs XP. Sounded good to me. I definitely do not want VISTA. Dan’s laptop has that and I think it is a pain.
I guess one should set aside money just for electronics. Society is coming to that. We can’t be without our computers and they seem to be destined to fail. Wish me luck.
