Day at Sea -- our last

Today was mostly hanging out, watching the ocean, watching people and enjoying our last day on the ship. Our team placed first in shuffleboard! I placed second in our family minature golf tournament. In between there was a chef and unbelievable ice carving demonstrations. Tonight we are backing and getting reading to leave bright and early at 7:00 am tomorrow morning.

We hear there is nasty weather ahead which might sabotage our plans to drive straight home tomorrow. I do have some nice pictures, but will wait for cheap hookup.

Costa Maya, Mexico

Costa Maya was a short overnight sail from Cozumel. This town was somewhat of a disappointment when we arrived. It obviously was a tourist setup. However, there was a sea water pool in the middle of the square with chairs all around. For any who wished there was a swimup bar. It turned out to be a good day. We looked around the shops, but did not see anything of interest--no bargains.

Tonight there are several activities but of course, first will be food! There is always plenty of that--right up until we go to bed!

There was a beautiful sunset tonight. I took plenty of pictures. Will post them when I am not paying 50 cents per minute for the Internet!

Tomorrow is a day at sea .

I sensed a change in the rocking motion of the ship, I guess, because I rallied out of a deep sleep around 6:00 this morning. I remembered we were to dock at Cozumel around 6:30. Dan and I made it to top deck in time to see the sun rise and witness our boat dock--both impressive.

Breakfast and then off to the beach. Paul, Dan's brother and along with his family, our traveling companions, knew of a beach a taxi ride away from the masses (at least six other cruise ships had also docked by this time including the Disney ship--more about that later). We found the beautiful state owned beach with no trouble, acquired our snorkeling gear and spent the day in and out of the water. It was 77 degrees here today and sunny. We thought of all our friends north.

Tomorrow, Costa Maya.

Headed for a Cruise

I am in Dallas as I write this. Skye and her sitter are watching our place and we are headed for a cruise where it's warm.
Splendour of the Seas leaves port tomorrow at 5:00. We should be at the port at Galveston in plenty of time. The roads are icy and travel is slow in central Texas.
The weather from Kansas was terrible. We started with raining ice in Kansas, then more of a snow like downfall in Oklahoma, where this picture was taken, then pure ice in northern Texas.
Check back in a few days--will let you know how the warm sea feels!
Note added after returning home: As it turned out, we arrived at the ship at 3:00 and it set sail at 5:00--a little close considering all the customs we had to go through. We encountered a bad ice storm south of Dallas. There were at least 30 accidents and cars in the ditch, at least up to the time we stopped counting.
