Huff n’ Puff 2013

Our friends Kay & Lynn were able to secure a spot for us in the Shawnee Lake Campground again this year the weekend of Huff n’ Puff.  It’s nice to be close by.  That way we can avoid traffic and see both the evening “glow” and early morning launches.

What I don’t show in these pictures is the process of getting the balloons in the air.   It takes a crew—all of them volunteer.  The payment is getting a ride once in a while.  There is one picture of a group of people holding the basket.  Once the balloon is fully inflated, it takes a lot of people to hold it down.

This time rather then embed the pictures in the blog, I am providing the link to the slideshow.  I think the beautiful colors of the balloons show better in the full screen mode.

Here is the  link.  Click on “slideshow” in upper right hand corner.

Do you see it?

I was folding clothes in the bedroom this morning when I looked out the window and saw what looked like some kind of crazy fish head emerge from behind the thermometer.

On closer inspection I see it is a Wood Nymph or Satyr butterfly.  My reference book says they like tree sap in a pinch.  (Even up close it still looks like a crazy fish head)

How about this picture…

Ahh, there’s our little tree frog that lives by our front door.

Too good not to pass on

I would want a dedicated rake.  Still, a very cool idea—especially for my Jivaro family who start a fire in the evening just for Smores.  One problem, how do you toast all sides of the marshmallows.  This would be important for Drue, who must have a perfectly done marshmallow.   Maybe don’t put the graham crackers on until the marshmallows are about done so they can be toasted on all sides.
