KSU Family of the Year

Our sister-in-law, Janice and Dan’s brother Paul are part of the Bebermeyer Family who as a group have been chosen Kansas State University’s family of the year.  Dorothy Bebermeyer Snider, one of the three sisters who started the legacy, is Janice’s mother.

They will be honored at half time of the Saturday evening game.  What a well deserved honor for the entire family.   Here is a link to the press release by KSU.

Can’t remember so many blooms

This spring I took the pruning sheers to the Rose of Sharon in front of our house.  It was out of control and needed a severe “haircut.”

Turns out it loved the cut.  It is beautiful.  Not sure why there are two colors.

Fill in the blank

There were several spaces filled with young families at Tuttle Creek Cove campground.   There were lots of children.  Some might have belonged to other campgrounds in the area.  It seems like bikes, skateboards and dog walkers were passing all times of the day.

It was evening when someone, I think it was Christi’s mom, Bev, called our attention to kids playing in a back lite scene behind us on top of the hill.  I snapped several pictures and didn’t think too much more about it until this afternoon.

This picture stood out among the rest.  Who knows what was going on, but somehow it is easy to imagine someone was in trouble and someone else was cartwheeling outta’ there.

Music our kids grew up listening to

So much of the music from our high school/college years is timeless—Elvis, Beetles, PPM (Peter, Paul & Mary), the women balladeers, come to mind.  Dan and I went through a period of Country & Western music so I have plenty of Kenny Rogers and Glen Campbell.

Today, however,  if Dan is gone (he can’t stand loud music) and I want to kick up the volume and exercise, clean, mow (headphones), whatever, I go to the rock music from our kids’ growing up years.

Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven”  is one of those songs.  I found this video thanks to my cousin who posted it on Facebook.  This song came out in 1971, when Kim was one year old.  I don’t know how much I actually listened to it in ‘71 (C&W years) but of course Led Zeppelin was around for a long time.  The meaning of the song is obscure but I like to think it means a woman finds money won’t buy her happiness or a “stairway to heaven.”

What an amazing production of a classic song.  And, it is obvious the original artists were moved.
