Buds appearing with 70 degree temps

Misc March 2009 007Each year this bush gets excited about Spring and blooms too soon. The tiny red flowers are pretty if they make it out before a freeze. We dug this plant up at an old farmstead and have never been sure of its name. It is next to a Forsythia which also thinks it is spring. The Silver Maple has large buds on it also. The Pin Oak by our bedroom window knows better—not a sign of buds.

NOTE: After conferring with Dan, I am sure the bush is a flowering Quince.

A Duel T-shirt Message

Misc March 2009

Sponge Bob is a cartoon.  Everyone knows that, I guess.  When I am with grandkids, I find myself caught up with it.  There are adult messages.

This t-shirt was in a display of Sponge Bob paraphernalia.  I liked the message immediately because the color yellow is a favorite and it brightens me. However, it took Dan to really get it.

There were no adult sizes or I would probably have one right now.

Boxer vs ‘Possum

Our boxer, Skye, is a great pet. She makes us laugh every day. I don’t need to post a picture of her—there have been plenty of those on this blog already.

Dan was working outside this afternoon. Skye brought a ‘possum up to the house that she found in the pasture playing dead. Dan scolded her and carried it away.

So, what did our smart dog do? She went back out, picked the possum up and brought it into the house, up the stairs and laid it in the hallway.

Needless to say, I closed the doggie door while Dan again carried it away. I sprayed disinfectant and gave Skye a bath but I have not opened the door for her yet. I’m afraid our highly intelligent dog will go right back out there and look for that equally smart ‘possum.

By the way, I did take a picture of the possum playing dead, but it was so ugly, I decided not to put up.

Correctly spelled “Opossum” here is a web site with Opossum poetry. There are also opossum pictures, clothes, history, facts and links—you name it. Turns out the Possum Rag, by Geraldine Dobyns that I have on the Box audio link on the left is a Mississippi State University fight song.

Now, considering the notoriety of this marsupial, I am thinking of putting the picture up, maybe Opossums aren’t so bad….nope, just had a look. I don’t think so.

As for Skye, she’s smart, no matter what some might say.

Vacation Home

If you followed my link about the Missouri trip, you read about our visit to Bonnot’s Mill. My pictures were not good because it was nearly dark. We hope to return to eat at the cafe.

The town is on the south side of the tracks. Passing under the tracks there is a road that follows the river. Between the road and the river people have built all kinds of small vacation homes. It is obvious everyone has a lot of fun along here in the summer.

This is one of the most intriguing examples of a vacation home that should withstand any flood.
