Jumpin’ Catfish

We visited our friends Dwight & Cheryl in Kansas City today.  They recently toured the Holy Land and we were anxious to see their pictures.  The pictures were well done and certainly representative of biblical history.

After considerable debate, we decided on Jumpin’ Catfish restaurant for our meal.  The original restaurant is in north Kansas City with two additional in the area.  It is not a chain, though.

Since their catfish is voted No. 1 in Kansas City, we ordered that.  It is very good, I had Cajun the others deep fried.  Their catfish is farm raised so mild and tender.  The coleslaw is especially good.  Just a hint of sweetness.

Rainy and cool, it was a good day to spend with friends.  And, I am glad some else caught the fish.

I have never tried catfish. I'm not a big fish eater except for salmon and halibut. We release the trout we catch. The ranch next to mine in CA (way back when)pulled out their vineyard and built catfish ponds. They said the fish will not be like those caught in muddy, warm water eating (junk) but instead will be raised in clean water with special fish food. One pond was right along our driveway and I always joked about throwing a line over the fence to catch one some night. Never did. The guy may have done something wrong raising them and when they went to harvest the fish, there weren't any. However, I suspect another neighbor may have done something because of a fewd the two had (one punched the guy in the face and knocked his teeth out.) We never saw any dead, floating fish, though. A mystery. The guy lost his property to foreclosure because he couldn't pay the bills. Anyway, I never tasted the catfish. I'd probably order it if I went to a place named Jumpin' Catfish. How could you not!

Laughing here ... I nailed your state! LOL My husband was born in Wichita and his family are in Hutchinson! Small world -- and his birth sign is Aquarius! I'm a Taurus from Tennessee. Nice to meet a fellow Kansan.

Linda--I cannot believe your story. That does not sound like a California story--Texas maybe. I will not eat catfish from rivers. For one thing, they eat on the bottom & there is too many farm chemicals from the fields in the area. We throw most of our fish back anymore, although we need to keep some from the farm pond because it's getting too full.

Carol, it's always interesting when someone stumbles onto my little blog from another part of the country. We go to Hutchinson once a year for the State Fair--your husband probably knows all about that!
