Flat Tire

Dan and I decided to spend a gift certificate to Old Chicago last evening for our Friday night pizza treat.

On the way, we had a flat tire. The crazy thing is, the last time we had a flat tire it was close to the exact same place, but that was many years and several cars ago.

Flat tires are almost a thing of the past in normal driving on well maintained roads with the new safer tires. Since they occur infrequently, seven observations concerning this event are as follows:

1. Radial tires may be deceiving, so check the pressure regularly

2. Severe temperature changes might make tires loose air

3. Screw jacks are junk

4. Check the pressure in your donut spare regularly

5. Remember to take cell phones when leaving the house, especially if Roadside Assistance plan is linked to one of them

6. Remember to bring a coat in case it turns cold

7. Thank your Guardian Angel when it all turns out OK

The pizza was delicious.

Home again

Home, unpacked and getting ready for work tomorrow. It's been a good day.

We enjoyed our final view of Pikes Peak about 7:30, mountain time. The trip across eastern Colorado and western Kansas with 50 plus degrees rather than blinding snow went well.

Several observations about that eight hour trip.

Don't leave Colorado Springs after drinking two large cups of coffee.

McDonald's is still the fastest meal.

75 and 80 mph definitely makes gas mileage go down.

Finally, if you loose a ring, look in the last glove you wore.

Our Day at

This baby was born very recently. We felt very lucky to catch a glimse of it and its momma. Click on the picture for a better look.

Fortress construction

It took most of the morning to construct the ultimate cardboard fortress. It is pretty shaky--don't think we'll be too well protected.

The project is moving along. The weather is beautiful. My two mile walk went better yesterday. I'm beginning to get my altitude wind.

Tomorrow the kids, Drue and I might take a field trip--check in tomorrow night!

Beautiful day

Today is 60 degrees in the sun in our neck of the Colorado woods. The snowman from yesterday is tipped over and most of the accumulation on the driveway is gone.

The guys are making good progress on the installation of the cabinets. They are beautiful.

I just got back from a two plus mile walk. I mentioned several weeks ago that I was trying to get back on a regular walking routine. I thought I was doing fairly well, but at this altitude plus half of it going uphill, I was down to a creep. I was pretty embarrassed as two or three fit, thin Coloradoans ran by me. Oh well, the scenery was beautiful.

Tonight is dinner at our kid's favorite Mexican restaurant in Monument. Maybe I'll have a picture tomorrow.
