Colorado, Family and Aspens

Kim had a continuing education class in Denver this weekend so at the last minute we decided to make the trip with her and visit our Colorado family. It has been a perfect weekend. Here we are as we at our picnic lunch at the Mueller State Park west of Colorado Springs.

Which is the small one?

The butterfly on the left is a southern Red-spotted Purple. This particular butterfly is interesting to me because my neighbor, Chip, told me it was the southern counterpart to the White Admiral from Canada. These are Admirals and they, along with Viceroy I posted earlier, are all part of the same family entitled Limenitis.

Butterflies are beautiful . My knowledge of biology is limited, however, when I see these intricate creatures and read about their stages of life, I am again reminded how small I am in this immense universe.

Down the hatch

Will we finally know what is down there? I'm talking about LOST, of course. I really like that show and was glad it received the Emmy nod last night. I enjoy the ensemble cast and the sci fi teasers. I can't imagine where they are going with the story line, though.

I don't watch much television, but I do have my favorites. Call me crazy, but I also like Survivor. I know a lot of people hate reality TV and I do admit sometimes it gets a bit predictable, but contrived or not, I enjoy watching the interacting of personalities.

So, I will be watching these two shows. There are a couple others that look tempting , but I don't want to get caught up in too much couch time. One thing is certain, I won't be watching any show with a laugh track and I will be taping so I can fast forward through the unbelievable number of commercials.

Weekend in Salina

We had a great weekend. Being with our grandboys, Aaron and Adam, is always fun. They are growing up so fast. We rode bikes, read, played catch and had a sneek peek at Aaron's Holloween costume.

Kim and I had an opportunity to spend some time in downtown Salina. There are a number of unique shops there. I found several perfect gifts. I will have to return during the Holidays.

This morning there was an interesting cloud formation looking east. Of course I had to run out with my camera.
The boys had a pumpkin patch. There is one nice one left.

It was a wonderful weekend!
